There is always a debate as to what is the better medium. Say what you will but Boruto has made it to become one of the best anime and manga out now. Of course it is no match to its previous predecessor but it stands strong in the anime community world wide.
Boruto leverages off his father’s popularity, Naruto. Sure, Boruto was made for the new generation of anime fans however, most of the people watching and reading the Boruto manga are Naruto fans. Fans have a love hate relationship with Boruto because on the one hand, it is the continuation of Naruto but on the other hand Boruto is not Naruto.
People watch or read the show because its the Naruto world however, they stay for the chance of seeing Naruto and Sasuke.
Review: Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
There is a huge difference between the manga and the anime. Is not jut the story but the tone is much difference.
Just like Naruto, the Boruto anime has so many fillers that people just get annoyed and decide to watch the anime. If you do not know why the anime has so many fillers then read the article why many anime do not follow the manga.
If you are okay with watching countless fillers that has nothing to do with the story then by all means enjoy it. The problem with the anime is that there is no threat. One thing that was learned from One Punch Man is that without conflict, there is no story. There is a lack of threat in the Boruto anime and this is one of the things that bores the crap out of people.

Boruto makes up what it lacks by having nostalgic episodes. We have seen Boruto going back in the past and seeing the young version of his father. It really feels like a slice of life anime with ninjas.
The main problem with the Boruto generation is also the lack of purpose. Naruto had so much purpose and meaning behind it. The least the anime could have done is give Boruto and the main characters something to strive for. If it wasn’t danger then perhaps something personal.
There hasn’t been a major villain in the anime that grabs people attention. If this can be fixed in the next few seasons then the Boruto anime could get better ratings. The positive side of the Boruto anime is that it does have a great world building. We get to see more of the Naruto world and the Otsutsuki clan.

Everything in the manga is canon. While there are things in the anime that are for the purpose of the fillers, not all characters are canon in the anime. If you want to cut through the nonsense then read the manga.
The manga is straight forward and although it does not have so much world building as the anime, it does focus on the action and main plot between the Otsutsuki, Boruto and Kawaki. The manga focuses more of the back story of Kawaki, Boruto and the main villain, the Otsutsuki as well as their minions, Kashin Koji and Delta.
In the manga we see Boruto use lightning released technique but we never found out when he learned it or from who. An educated guess would be from Sasuke but it was never confirmed. The manga makes up what the anime does not.
Boruto Manga Vs Anime: What Is The Difference?
In the manga we know who our main villain is and where the story is moving. We found out who Jigen really was and we learned how to kill and Otsutsuki, which was awesome. The manga is straight forward with the action and it shows us the power of the Karma that is marked on Boruto.
The anime does not give us a definite villain but it does give us snapshots as to what will happen in the future, especially with the intros of every season. Although the manga goes straight into the main story, the anime does go deeper into the lives of characters so if you want more world building and learn more about the characters then definitely watch the anime.
There is no right or wrong here. The manga or the anime, it is up to you which one is better. Is not like other anime where it is easy to explain which one was better done than the other such as Demon Slayer. If you watch Demon Slayer, the anime is not very long and neither is the manga. It does not have hundreds of episodes with many filler stories in between. Therefore it is easy to distinguish which medium was better done.

A good example would be Berserk. The Berserk manga is a master and in fact, even Ben Shapiro from the Daily Wire has picked it up himself. The Berserk anime of 2016 and beyond really sucked. However, the three movies of the Golden Age arc were absolutely amazing as well as the original anime of 1997.
