Season 2 is the second season of Koyoharu Gotoge's Kimetsu no Yaiba by ufotable. It is a direct continuation of the first season and is split into 2 cours, respectively subtitled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train Arc (鬼 (き) 滅 (めつ) の刃 (やいば) ：無 (む) 限 (げん) 列 (れっ) 車 (しゃ) 編 (へん) , Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha Hen ? ) and Kimetsu no Yaiba: Entertainment District Arc (鬼 (き) 滅 (めつ) の刃 (やいば) ：遊 (ゆう) 郭 (かく) 編 (へん) , Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yūkaku Hen ? ) to reflect the story arcs they cover.
The first cour contains an extended cut of the original 2020 Mugen Train movie, featuring all the movie's content in episodic format alongside brand new content made for the TV anime broadcast. The second cour is entirely new content.
Following their battles on Mount Natagumo and recovery at the Butterfly Mansion, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko are tasked with aiding the investigation of the Mugen train, where over forty disappearances have occured. They join one of the most powerful swordsmen within the Demon Slayer Corps, the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, to face the demon aboard the Mugen train and rescue the passengers.

Later, Tanjiro and company join alongside another of the Demon Slayer Corps' top ranked swordsmen, the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui, and travel to a place where demons are said to dwell – the Yoshiwara Entertainment District – to investigate a supposed powerful demonic presence that lurks the city at night amidst bustling human activity and residence.

The second season adapts volumes sev to elev (chapters 55–97) of the manga series and ran in two cours, with the first part titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mug Train Arc, a sev-episode recompilation of Mug Train as featured in the 2020 anime film, featuring new music and an all new original episode, which aired from October 10 to November 28, 2021.
The second part is titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – tertainmt District Arc which aired 11 episodes, from December 5, 2021, to February 13, 2022.
The season was directed by Haruo Sotozaki, with character designs by Akira Matsushima, and animation produced by Ufotable; staff and cast from the first season and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mug Train also returned.

For the Mug Train Arc, the oping theme is Akeboshi (明け星 , lit. Morning Star) while the ding theme is Shirogane (白銀 , lit. Silver), both performed by LiSA. Homura (炎 , Flame) is used as the ding theme of episode 7. For the tertainmt District Arc, the oping theme is Zankyō Sanka (残響散歌 , lit. Song of Reverberation) while the ding theme is Asa ga Kuru (朝が来る , lit. Daybreak), both performed by Aimer.
Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rgoku is tasked with finding an elusive demon plaguing a town. Believing the demon is connected to over forty disappearances on the Mug train, he sets out to find and kill it. He meets a pair of bto vdors and advises them on the risk of demons, before he soon locates the train. After learning it is slated to be put back into service, he counters the demon responsible for the attacks throughout the area. To spite him for his humanity, the demon decides to hunt down the bto vdors and flees. Kyojuro evtually tracks it down and kills it, saving the vdors; his actions remind the elderly vdor of wh she herself was saved by the former Flame Hashira many years ago. After realizing the demon is too weak for such numerous victims, Kyojuro boards the Mug Train to begin his investigation.
Tanjiro, Zitsu, and Inosuke meet Kyojuro on the Mug Train. After an explanation of the situation by the Hashira, they discover two demons hidd on board and witness Kyojuro's impressive abilities first hand. Later into the night, all four Demon Slayers fall asleep, with Tanjiro dreaming about being reunited with his lost family. They have fall into the Blood Demon Art of mu, Lower One of the Kizuki. The demon had mixed his blood into the ink in their tickets, allowing his plan to go into motion without being noticed. As Tanjiro continues to fall deeper into his slumber, mu finds joy that they may never awak again.

Whilst the Demon Slayers are asleep, mu instructs four vulnerable passgers to tie their wrists to them, fall asleep, and ter their dreams. Armed with an awl made of his bone, they must search for their spiritual core and destroy it, in order to rder them incapacitated. Kyojuro's intruder finds his core, but his intsely strong spirit manages to stop her in the real world. Nezuko, who is unaffected by mu's Blood Demon Art, emerges from her box and tries to wake up Tanjiro. Though her attempts to do so fail, she is able to alert him that he is in a dream and trapped. In an ultimate attempt to wake himself up, Tanjiro draws his sword and slashes his own neck in order to regain consciousness.
Tanjiro's intruder finds himself in Tanjiro's subconsciousness. Figmts of his spirit guide him to the spiritual core but he relts, unwilling to harm such a pure-hearted soul. Tanjiro awaks and discovers his peers deep asleep. Nezuko burns the ropes off the wrists of the Demon Slayers, which awaks the passgers. They attack Tanjiro, who knocks them out. Tanjiro spares his passger, after learning how sick and desperate he was. Wh Zitsu and Inosuke fail to awak, Tanjiro tasks Nezuko with protecting the passgers and climbs onto the roof, meeting mu. He attacks Lower One, who repeatedly forces him into unconsciousness. However, he is unaffected by knowing to commit suicide in his dreams and beheads him. mu does not fade into ash and he gleefully reveals that he has fused with the tire train. Inosuke th awaks and assists Tanjiro in battling the demon.
Inosuke and Tanjiro attempt to battle mu from inside the train but find their attacks futile with his regeration. Nezuko joins the fight and is nearly overwhelmed until the arrival of Zitsu. Kyojuro finally joins the fray and damages mu ough to stall his assault. The Hashira explains the plan to Tanjiro; he himself, Zitsu, and Nezuko will protect the passgers while he and Inosuke will search for mu's real neck. They locate it at the train's locomotive, but despite constantly slashing the cabin, mu continues to gerate flesh as protection. The driver, wanting to protect the demon, stabs Tanjiro in the stomach. However, Tanjiro musters his strgth, and, together with Inosuke, manages to expose mu's neckbone. He performs his Hinokami Kagura technique and decapitates mu with a powerful swing. The tire train derails and crashes into the ground.

After the train derails, mu disintegrates. Tanjiro struggles with his wound but manages to stabilize it under Kyojuro's guidance. They are met by Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who tries to persuade Kyojuro into turning into a demon, achieve immortality and reach a higher power, having ssed how powerful he was. Appealing to his integrity as a Demon Slayer, he immediately refuses, resulting in a battle to the death betwe the two. He instructs Tanjiro and Inosuke to stay behind. Despite Kyojuro's tremdous strgth and speed, Akaza overwhelms him with his unique martial arts and powerful regeration, injuring Kyojuro severely. Tanjiro and Inosuke cannot do anything but look from afar helplessly.
With all that is left in him, Kyojuro unleashes one last, powerful attack at Akaza, momtarily stunning him. However, Akaza fatally injures him, and despite Kyojuro trying to restrain him, flees upon seeing the arrival of daybreak, breaking Kyojuro's sword. In desperate fury, Tanjiro flings his sword with all his force at Akaza, who nonetheless escapes as an raged Tanjiro dounces him as a coward for running away. While Kyojuro succumbs to his injuries, he confides in Tanjiro messages for both his brother and father for him to give them. He accepts Nezuko as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, and courages Tanjiro to set his heart ablaze. He sees a vision of his proud mother, before passing away peacefully, devastating Tanjiro and Inosuke. The other Hashiras receive the news of Kyojuro's death, while the head of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kagaya, appreciates him for not letting a single passger or comrade die in his presce.
Akaza meets Muzan, now disguised as a young boy, who reveals his disappointmt in Akaza for not being able to kill the other three Demon Slayers other than Kyojuro. Akaza vows to kill
