Manga has been around a long time. It's popular in Japanese culture and it's shockingly easy to find it on mobile. Here are the best manga apps for Android!

Manga has been around for decades. It’s also a fairly big part of Japanese culture. Now, people all around the world are starting to really get into manga. It hasn’t proliferated quite yet. However, your mobile device can be a great place to find some. Here are the best manga apps for Android. We’d like to give Crunchyroll Manga an honorable mention. It has an outstanding selection, but the UI is kind of awful. Since manga reads a lot like comic books, you can also try out the best comic book readers if you have your own stuff and just need a solid reader.

The

Kindle, Google Play Books, and Nook are the most popular ebook reader platforms on the Internet. You have no doubt heard of them before. The good news is they all have a manga collection. The bad news is their fairly barebones selection. We only recommend these because they are so popular, accessible, and solid on mobile devices. Those who may be into reading ebooks and want to stretch into manga can find a good jumping-off point with these apps.

Anime/manga Comics App!!!

They all allow for downloading for offline reading and your collection syncs between devices. Those who are already really big into the manga scene may want something a little more hardcore, though. Kindle, Play Books, and Nook are all free apps and you can legally purchase manga to support the writers here.

Comic Trim is a bit of a wild card in this space. It’s relatively new so we don’t know how this one is going to turn out long-term. However, it’s a fairly competent manga and comic reader. It’s a reader that supports CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, image folders, and PDF. That should cover most of the formats that manga uses. This is only recommended for those who already have a standalone collection and need an app that can read them properly. The free version comes with stuff like a night reading mode, a magnifying glass mode, gesture controls, and more. The premium version removes ads, supports higher resolution images, and has a full dark theme.

Comixology is a comic book app with a lot to offer. It’s predominately made for fans of regular comics like Marvel or DC. However, the app has a pretty decent selection of manga. On top of that, the app is built specifically to read comics and that style of literature. That makes it a great spot for fans to read comics comfortably on a smartphone or tablet. The manga is reasonably priced or you can subscribe to Comixology’s service and read the manga for free. Their selection is purely digital. It’s also a good spot for people who like comics as well as manga because the service has plenty of both.

We’re treading off the beaten path a little bit with this pick. There are Discord servers for all kinds of interests, including gaming, socializing, and yes, even manga. You can head to these servers to get recommendations from other manga fans and even find good places to buy or download manga. We don’t have any specific links, but communities should be fairly easy to find and the app has recommendations for a lot of interests. I’m personally in an anime server for very much the same reason I’m recommending it as a manga app and I’m quite happy with it. There are also many subreddits on Reddit dedicated to manga as well.

Mangamo is the newest manga app on the list as of the time of this writing. It has a lot going for it. There is a decent selection with over 1, 000 volumes of manga. There are popular ones like Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins, and others. Finally, it’s a 100% legal platform so you’re contributing to the authors and industry as a whole. The subscription cost is less than most at $4.99 per month and the features with the app are pretty good. The only downsides are a few bugs and some organizational issues that we hope the developers get fixed sooner rather than later.

Shonen

MangaToon gave us a Wild West sort of vibe. There is all kinds of content here from both large creators as well as basically anyone else who wants to upload their content. The developers even create manga from the most popular novels that users write so it’s a fun place for creative folks who want to give that a try. On the reading side, you have all of the basics, including a category system and a favorites system for easy browsing and recall. You can also download whole chapters and read them offline if you choose. The whole thing runs on a coin system that you purchase with real money. Thankfully, it’s not too expensive or anything like that.

Neko is a good manga reader with some nice features. You can easily find and download manga from the franchises you enjoy and it also supports some NSFW content as well if you’re into that. It’s technically a fork from Tachiyomi with some extra support for Mangadex. The design is pretty good, the selection is above average, and you can even merge missing chapters that Mangadex doesn’t have.

The app is free and open-source. You can find the open-source code at the download button below since you do have to download it from there. That brings us to the one downside of this app and that’s the lack of Google Play support. Luckily, it still works well.

Tachiyomi is one of the best manga apps and it’s also more complicated than most. It has a massive collection of both normal anime and NSFW stuff (if you’re into that). The app also has a variety of extensions that provide even more manga along with catalogs from a variety of manga sources. It worked perfectly fine in our testing even though there’s a bit of a learning curve.

Pocket Comics |free Chapters Every Day!

This app is not available on Google Play because the extensions are actually APK downloads and Google Play doesn’t allow that. Plus, you know, the manga is free, the app has NSFW content, and both of those things can occasionally rub Google the wrong way. You have to download the APK from GitHub (linked at the button) and install from there. It’s a little tedious, but people love this app.

Unlike all of the other manga apps on this list, Viz Media is actually a manga publisher. Fans of manga may know them for their Weekly Shonen Jump magazine where a lot of popular series are serialized. On Android, you can get the official Weekly Shonen Jump magazine app and read issues. They also have a standard manga reading app along with a Naruto-specific manga app if you’re into that. All three apps are free to download although you’ll be asked to spend some money on the content. Additionally, the apps still need a little work, but they seem to be good most of the time.

WebComics are a different genre from manga, but it usually scratches the same itch. Both read the same way and both can be enjoyable. In any case, WebComics is a huge website with a bunch of webcomics. The app offers HD downloads of popular webcomics as well as a functional reading experience. The app uses in-app purchases or single comic purchases or a subscription service if you want to bypass all that and just read all of the comics. There is so much content here that you’ll never get through it all and it does well in its execution.
