Rating for whole series: 4.5/5 The first three or so volumes were a bit slower from what I am used to with Tonogai's stories but once the revelations started there was no stopping. Judge is a game of judgement (dah!). For Judge 9 players are abducted, each one has one of the 7 deadly sins to be judged for. Every 12 hours they have to vote for the one of them that will be killed. Simple, right? NO! When 9 strangers are put together in an abandoned house (or whatever that thing was) and the rules of the game are laid in front of them everyone will do pretty much anything to survive. From fights to plotting devious plans and alliances, only four can make it out alive. Judge was a very sick and twisted game, so of course I loved it. The beginning was a bit slower. There were a lot of arguments about how they should vote. They players never really did what the game master was asking them, which was to judge the sins of the other players. They never really talked about what each ones sin was and we only got see a few of their stories as flashbacks. And as the story progressed and people started dropping dead it seemed like they might get what was promised to them but then there were like million twists and things went downhill pretty fast for our remaining players. I loved how things progressed, it only made sense that I couldn't tell who was the bad guy in this one. But I am proud of my mystery solving skills that I had the right suspect (almost) by volume 3. If you are into manga and fast paced thrillers, sick stories and horror this is definitely one you should read.

I was surprised in a positive way. I have read Doubt by this same mangaka before and I actually enjoyed that, but I was not expecting this to also be as good. The art is a bit creepy, but (especially the sideprofiles) were kinda awkward. Judge is another death game manga by the master Yoshiki Tonogai. This series is about a group of some random people, that do not know eachother. They will have to vote for one of them to die every 12 hours. I do not think this is a spoiler, so I will be saying it... At first I thought it is great that this has a gay character, but now that I really think about it, it seems like his sin is his sexuality... Which is quite problematic.
I'm re-reading this book in English. I started this series in Japan and think I got up to volume three before I moved. I'm glad to see that it's available in the US. I was really invested in this the first time around and was wanting to know how things would turn out. I guess I will this time. In this first volume we get our first impressions from our new group of unfortunates. It's a big mind trip and I love it. It's not exactly ground breaking but it's at least entertainign.
Seitsemän kuolemansyntiä kiehtovalla twistillä. Joukko ihmisiä on suljettu outoon vankilaan. He heräävät eläinmaskit päässään. Ja heidän on päätettävä, kuka heidän joukostaan kuolee. Kuin yhdistelmä elokuvia Saw ja Cube. Tätä täytyy lukea lisää ainakin toinen osa.
Yami No Shihosha Judge (film, 1991)
3, 5 stars? It's hard to say much about this yet because this volume just gathers the people together and explains the rules of the death game. Hiro, the bunny headed guy, gets a proper backstory flashback, a few others only a couple of details. The concept, however, is that they are all there because they are guilty of one of the seven sins. The youngsters have to vote who is to be sacrificed at set intervals, otherwise everybody die. It is said that four of them will survive but I don't believe that, there are only eight (because one of them is offed before the game even properly starts) of them... So, I'm intrigued enough that I will read more. Art is clear and the animal heads as disturbing as in Tonogai's earlier work, haha. As a final note, it obviously isn't very nice that one of the boys is implied to be there because he likes boys but he's okay with the fact himself, so let's see what is done with that plot point (if anything).
What do you get when you combine the seven deadly sins, adorably horrifying stuffed animals, and a game of judge and jury unlike any other? You get Judge, created by the wonderfully creepy Yoshiki Tonogai, whose art will delight yet haunt you
