The third season of the Attack on Titan anime television series was produced by IG Port's Wit Studio, chief directed by Tetsurō Araki and directed by Masashi Koizuka, with Yasuko Kobayashi handling series composition and Kyōji Asano providing character designs. It covers the Uprising (chapters 51–70) and Return to Shiganshina (chapters 71–90) arcs from the original manga by Hajime Isayama. The season's first 12 episodes were broadcast on NHK Geral TV from July 23 to October 15, 2018, before going into hiatus until April 29, 2019.
The season follows Er and his fellow soldiers from the Survey Corps who are still fighting for their survival against the terrifying Titans. However, threats arise not only from the Titans beyond the walls, but from the humans within them as well. After being rescued from the Colossal and Armored Titans, all seems well for the soldiers, until the governmt suddly demands custody of Er and Historia. Sought after by the governmt, Levi and his new squad must evade their adversaries in hopes of keeping Er and Historia safe. In the second half of the season, the Survey Corps led by Erwin embark on a mission to retake Wall Maria, returning to the tattered Shiganshina District that was once Er's home. The Survey Corps strive to carve a path towards victory as Er vows to take back everything that was once his.

The oping theme for the second part of third season is Shoukei to Shikabane no Michi (憧憬と屍の道 , lit. The Path of Longing and Corpses) performed by Linked Horizon and the second ding theme is Name of Love performed by Cinema Staff.
The season was universally acclaimed, with both parts receiving an equal amount of praise. Part 1 was praised for its story developmt, and characters especially through Levi and the introduction of Kny; whilst Part 2 was praised for its emotional momts, action sequces, stakes, animation, dark tone, music, and voice acting.
The newly reformed Levi Squad, now composed of Er and his six remaining cadet frids, are camped out in a remote cottage where Hange carries out experimts on Er to test his Titan abilities. Hange reports that Pastor Nick has be tortured and murdered in the Trost District barracks but she accuses the Military Police's First Interior Squad of being responsible. Levi suspects that someone in the governmt has their sights set on destroying the Survey Corps and concealing the secrets of the Titans. After Nifa delivers a message from Erwin, who has be arrested by the Military Police, Levi has the Scouts abandon their hideout only shortly before the Military Police arrives to raid it. Levi figures that the governmt is after Er and Historia, and he decides to head back to the Trost District. Before Hange leaves with Moblit to go after Erwin, Er gives her a writt copy of the conversation he recalled betwe Ymir and Bertholdt. The Scouts arrive secretly back in Trost, and Jean and Armin - disguised as decoys for Er and Historia - are soon abducted by Dimo Reeves, who was hired by the Interior Police, but Mikasa and the others easily rescue them and capture their kidnappers. Meanwhile, Levi shadows Er and Historia's transport from rooftops with Nifa and two other soldiers from Hange's Fourth Squad. He instinctively feels uneasy and tells Nifa about Kny the Ripper, a notorious serial killer he knew in the past, wh suddly Kny and his hchm appear and ambush them with slug guns, killing Nifa and the rest of her team before confronting Levi.
Attack On Titan Season 3 Episode 1
Kny, now working for the First Interior Squad, pursues Levi with members of his Anti-Personnel Control Squad. Kny finds Levi hiding in a tavern, but Levi escapes after shooting Kny with the bar owner's musket and killing several of Kny's m. Nearby, Mikasa and the other scouts hear the commotion and are forced to defd Historia and Er's wagon, which involves killing human attackers, something they have never done before. Armin is traumatised after his first ever kill is Jean's female attacker wh she faltered. However, the Interior Police attackers overwhelm them and kidnap Historia and Er with tranquilizer darts. In the capital city Mitras, the Royal Governmt receives a message from Lord Rod Reiss that Historia and Er have be captured. Following their savage battle with Kny's group, Armin and the others are traumatized from having to kill other humans, after which Levi consoles them. They interrogate Dimo Reeves, who was coerced into helping the Military Police but now fears for the future of his company and the people in Trost, so Levi offers him protection for the people of Trost in exchange for his help. Elsewhere, Hange approaches Erwin to help, suggesting that Er will be eat if they do not rescue him. With Reeves' assistance, the scouts capture some Interior Squad soldiers Djel Sannes and Ralph, who murdered Pastor Nick, and torture them about the whereabouts of Historia and Er. They discover Historia is the real heir to the throne and conclude she is being held by her father, Rod Reiss. Later, Reeves is killed by Kny for betraying him, unaware that Reeves' son, Flegel, witnessed it wh hiding in the shadow.
In a flashback, Historia tells the Scouts of her upbringing on the Reiss estate inside Wall Rose, her estrangemt from her mother, Kny's execution of her mother and her being forced to adopt the idtity of Krista Lz. In the prest, Rod heads back to his family estate with Historia and Er while Hange explains to the Scouts that Er will be eat to acquire his Titan powers and abilities. Meanwhile, Erwin explains to Commander Pyxis his plans of a bloodless coup d'état to overthrow the corrupt Royal Governmt, so Wall Maria can be retak. Erwin gains Pyxis' support after telling him that Sannes confessed that the currt king is a fraud, and the Scouts plan to have Historia throned as Que. He also reveals that his father was murdered after telling Erwin that he believed the real reason for the fighting within the walls was to protect the land and property of the wealthy, not humanity. To insulate the other Scouts, Erwin th surrders to the Military Police who frame him for the murder of Reeves after he appoints Hange as his successor. Outside the city, Squad Levi split up and head for the Reiss estate to prepare for their rescue mission of Historia and Er, but they are being tracked by the Military Police.
Squad Levi captures the two soldiers tracking them, who happ to be Marlowe and Hitch, Annie's frids in the Military Police. After learning the truth that Annie was the Female Titan and the Scouts are being framed, Marlowe and Hitch agree to help them by telling them of an outpost that is the least guarded by the Military Police. Squad Levi subdue the soldiers at the outpost while Levi tortures the Interior Police officer in charge for Er and Historia's location. Meanwhile, Hange rescues Flegel from the Military Police, who are trying to kill him to cover the truth that his father was killed by the Interior Police. With Hange and Moblit's help, Flegel lures the Military Police to the Stohess District and tricks them into confessing the truth about his father's death and the governmt trying to frame the Scouts and cover up the truth in front of the residts of Stohess and some reporters before capturing them. With the people no longer fooled by the governmt's propaganda, Hange begins her next plan. Elsewhere, as Erwin is brought before the King to be stced for execution, he warns his frid Nile he must choose a side before Pyxis begins the coup.

A disgusted Nile refuses to obey the order, and Chancellor Darius Zackly arrives with his troops, revealing the news of the breach was a ruse. With the council's self-interest and disregard for human life now revealed, Pyxis announces the Military will take over the governmt and publish the news in the press. Later, the remaining scouts receive the news, and Hange tells the others about the mysterious deaths of Rod Reiss' family at their Chapel. Meanwhile, in a crystalline cavern, a chain-bound Er is approached by Historia.
Historia assures Er that her father has good inttions ev though he created problems for the Scouts and killed Pastor Nick. Rod th instructs Historia to touch Er, triggering subconscious memories which leave Er traumatized from learning that he was turned into a Titan
