While not the most timely thread, seeing how we are just weeks away from the most recent Hiatus of Hunter X Hunter becoming the longest hiatus...I couldn't help but laugh a little along with a little cry and pain deep in my soul.

Haikyuu just ended and was the 3rd oldest series in Jump for the past 3 years starting on Feb 20th 2012, will end with more chapters than HxH has had in over 20 years.

One Piece & Hunter X Hunter are also the only Weekly Jump series from the 90's still running in the magazine. Unless you count Yugioh as a still running series & what ever Bastard is doing in Ultra Jump.
Although some are under the impression that Oda wants to ending One Piece in 5 years, Oda really just meant he hopes he can and of course why wouldn't he. But Oda is infamous for in judging his timing, it's very clear there's a ending in sight and we are over 80% done with the story Oda wants too tell.

With HXH...well we got no real end in sight, hell it's hard to way even how far we got left in this arc left to go. While I can see Togashi try to wrap up everything he possible can in this arc, nothing has really been said or shown this is planned on being the last arc.
There are far too many characters and moving parts to it, and this isn't even a vital arc, it's just the journey to the dark continent which I imagine is going to be it's own arc too.
To top it all off Leorio, Killua and Gon aren't even part of the arc and don't seem to be travelling to the hard to reach Dark Continent.

I'm up to date with the manga and the recent anime really did choose the perfect spot to end. I love this series, I really hope to see it continue. The recent (wordy) manga chapters were soooo good

At this point I wouldn't even mind if Togashi and Miura both outsourced a summary of their endgame plans to capable writers/artists. I don't even care if they end well anymore, just let them end.

Togashi needs to realize he's not the same man he was when he drew Yu Yu Hakusho, or Yorknew-era HxH. He should hire an artist to do the heavy lifting for him while he just writes. Hell, get Sui Ishida since he did that Hisoka one-shot. It's not like he's doing anything right now.
It made me laugh when Dr. Stone recently had a short boat arc that only ended up being four chapters long. Of course, more sailing will happen after this current arc ends. But even so, they sailed from Japan to America in only four chapters.
I think One Piece has the potential to finish in a few years at the rate the story is moving and what it is moving towards.

Agreed on how 2011 anime ended on the best part and I'm completely confused w/the most recent boat ride arc. I doubt it'll ever be completed at this rate but I liked the earlier parts so not a total waste?

I accepted that the ending is where the second anime ends. Anything after at this point is a bonus. Also I can't say I'm enjoying the current neverending arc. If something great comes out of HxH again, I'll be happy, but the series ended on a perfect note shortly after the most gloriously epic arc a shounen has perhaps ever seen. I'm fine with that.
